musicness

I'm a super music buff. I love all kinds of music except for some country and rap. I just can't bring myself to listen to it. I try. And I absolutely hate Taylor Swift. She looks like she could be one of the elves in Lord of the Rings. I don't think her voice is anything special or her songs... her songs are disgustingly sappy. What really ruined her for me is during the Grammys or one of those award shows she sang with Stevie Nicks (whom I love love love) which makes it just that worse. But Swift sang "Edge of Seventeen" and totally ruined it and you could barely hear Stevie Nicks singing with her. How dare she?!

Anyway, I love all that alternative "hipster" sort of music. I think you could define "hipster" music as bands and artists that nobody has heard of. We have this radio station in Richmond, WNRN. It's the best radio station everrr! But they play a bunch of alternative "hipster" music. I get a bunch of my music from them as well as just exploring itunes and Spotify and where ever else.

I found this awesome playlist on Ra Ra Riot's Facebook page today. It's very good. http://soundcloud.com/lightfiction/runningmix2
Speaking of Ra Ra Riot... they're coming to SU next Wednesday and bummer that I have no one to go with! Damn me for not meeting any friends yet! Ra Ra Riot has such nice vibes man. The tickets are only $10, so I'll probs just go by myself. It's ok, really. I've realized it's not that weird if you go to the grocery store or school by yourself but if you go to the movie theater or a concert by yourself, people look at you strange. Well, cause it is strange... it's a human condition... we can never be alone. n the words of Three Dog Night, "One is the lonliest number that You'll ever do."

Current musicness obsessions... always have an obsession...
1. Andrew Bird (this obsession has been going on for over a month now)
2. "Soldier On" and the rest of the songs on The Temper Traps album Conditions (everybody loves that song "Sweet Disposition" but then totes neglects the rest of their fabulous songs. not. right.)
3. A Boy Named Charlie Brown, the whole album by Vince Guaraldi Trio (Charlie Brown music is sooo good for the months of October and November.)
4. "Skyfall" by Adele (itunes says I've listened to it just 17 times on my computer) as well as "The Name's Bond... James Bond" which is the theme for the James Bond movies (Skyfall, the next James Bond movie comes out today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
5. "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver. I didn't think I liked Bon Iver but this song is so good so I need to listen to moreeee.
6. "Man Like That" and "Don't Stop" by Gin Wigmore (sounds like Imelda May and ZZ Ward but I totes like that style a lot)

I shall post some more great music obsessions later but ah I'm so excited for Skyfall, you don't even know!!!
